Public hearings resume
7th December 2009

The Robert Hamill Inquiry will resume its public hearings at the Interpoint Centre in Belfast today [Monday, 7th December] with closing submissions from lawyers for the key witnesses. Proceedings will begin at 10.30am with a closing submission by Barra McGrory QC on behalf of the family of Robert Hamill.

The purpose of closing submissions is to allow lawyers for the key witnesses to outline what they see as the important issues and questions which the Inquiry should address.

The Inquiry is scheduled to hold public sessions from Monday, 7th December to Friday, 18th December inclusive. This time has been scheduled to allow for closing submissions together with any final questions which the Inquiry Panel may wish to put to lawyers for any of the witnesses.

The Inquiry has heard evidence in person from 174 witnesses and witness statements from a further 37 witnesses.

The Inquiry is open the public. Details of forthcoming proceedings are available on the Inquiry’s website (www.roberthamillinquiry.org), and a full transcript of each day’s proceedings will be available on the website the following day.
